Salem's Halloween Night Finale Is Tonight: 400 Drones Over the North River Mark the City's 400th Anniversary

The city of Salem, in Essex County, Massachusetts, closes out its month-long Halloween celebration, Haunted Happenings, tonight, October 31: at 10 p.m., 400 drones will perform over the North River to mark the 400th anniversary of Salem's founding. Live music takes over stages across downtown from noon today, building up to the nighttime finale.
According to the official press release from Destination Salem, Haunted Happenings is one of the world's largest Halloween celebrations, drawing more than one million visitors from around the globe each year. This year's festivities opened on October 1 with the Salem Chamber of Commerce Haunted Happenings Grand Parade, and the month also featured Witch Hats on the Wharf on October 17, when residents and visitors gathered at Derby Wharf in witch hats for a community photograph and world record attempt honoring the 400th anniversary.
Ashley Judge, Executive Director of Destination Salem, said in the release that this year's celebration, coinciding with Salem's 400th anniversary, welcomes visitors from around the world to experience what makes October in Salem so special. Organizers suggest starting at the Visitor Information Center at 245 Derby Street and encourage the use of public transit, including trains, ferries and satellite parking with shuttles.
Salem's Halloween celebration began in 1982 as a weekend event and has grown into a month-long festival. Known for its late-17th-century witch trials history and Halloween atmosphere, the city is billed as the Halloween Capital of the World.
