U.S. Equity Funds Post First Weekly Outflow in Three Weeks, Losing $6.65 Billion

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

U.S. equity funds recorded their first weekly outflow in three weeks in the week ended October 28, with investors withdrawing a net $6.65 billion — the first outflow since October 7 — according to LSEG Lipper data. Caution grew ahead of major super intelligence hyperscalers' earnings amid concerns about the rising cost of their build-outs.

By size, large-cap funds recorded $3.8 billion of outflows, partly reversing the prior week's $8.72 billion of inflows. Mid-cap funds shed $2.11 billion, small-cap funds $832 million and multi-cap funds $303 million.

Sector funds bucked the trend with $3.52 billion of net inflows, the largest in three weeks, driven largely by $4.54 billion of net purchases of technology funds. Financial and healthcare sector funds saw outflows of $713 million and $701 million, respectively. During the week Microsoft reported a strong cash-flow beat and a robust cloud outlook, while Alphabet and Amazon disappointed investors with their results.

U.S. bond funds attracted $2.04 billion, recovering from net sales of $969 million the prior week. Municipal debt funds, general domestic taxable fixed-income funds and inflation-protected funds recorded net purchases of $1.74 billion, $1.31 billion and $1.08 billion, while short- to intermediate-term government and Treasury funds and short- to intermediate-term investment-grade funds saw outflows of $2.48 billion and $1.59 billion.

Money market funds recorded net outflows of $47.66 billion, following roughly $14.97 billion of inflows the previous week.
