'Below Deck' Captain Kerry Titherage Meets Federal Boarding on Voyage Home: Engines Failed, Passports Checked for an Hour Before Release

'Below Deck' captain Kerry Titherage had a tense encounter with federal agents at sea while bringing a yacht owned by an NBA star back to Miami from a nine-day trip in the Bahamas, Page Six has learned.

According to a source speaking to Page Six, one of the vessel's four engines failed during the return trip, and about 10 miles off the Florida coast a second engine failed as waters grew rougher. Titherage called the towing service Towboat US for help, but was instead approached by two federal vessels — one operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the other by U.S. Customs and Border Protection — carrying roughly 12 officers between them, including seven or eight masked officers on one boat.

Agents demanded that he slow down and allow them to board, Page Six reported. Titherage, who has more than 30 years of experience working on boats, initially refused, worried that reducing speed in the rough conditions would be dangerous. The federal boats tailed the yacht for almost two hours until he could slow down safely and the agents boarded.

The agents searched the yacht for contraband and examined passengers' passports, spending about an hour scrutinizing the visa of a female foreign national on board, before allowing the vessel to land. A representative for Titherage told Page Six: 'We are glad the situation didn't escalate and that everyone left safely.' ICE did not respond to Page Six's request for comment.

Titherage made his reality TV debut on 'Below Deck Adventure' in 2022 and took over from longtime star Captain Lee Rosbach on the flagship 'Below Deck' in 2024, a role he has held since.
