Thunder Lose a Third Starter: Chet Holmgren Out 8 to 10 Weeks After Treatment for a Patellar Tendon Tear

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on the night of October 30 that All-Star center Chet Holmgren underwent a biological treatment on Friday to address a small patellar tendon tear in his right knee and will miss eight to 10 weeks. The team said he is expected to make a full recovery, putting his return in the first couple of weeks of 2027.
According to the Thunder, Holmgren experienced mild discomfort in his right knee after October 25 and met with specialists before the decision was made to perform the treatment. He had already missed the Thunder's last two games. In three appearances this season he averaged 12 points and 9.3 rebounds.
Holmgren is the third Thunder starter ruled out for an extended period this week, joining forward Jalen Williams, who fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle and underwent surgery, and guard Cason Wallace, who tore the labrum in his shoulder. Playing short-handed, Oklahoma City lost 120-96 to Dallas on October 28, stood at 4-1, and was due to face Houston on October 31.
ESPN reported on October 31 that Holmgren's injury also changed a roster plan: the Thunder decided against signing free-agent forward Ochai Agbaji, sources told ESPN.
