A Wedding in the Park: Two Couples Marry at Clark Regional Park in Buena Park, With the County Supervisor Officiating

Ralph B. Clark Regional Park in Buena Park, in California's Orange County, hosted an unusual ceremony on October 17: the Orange County Clerk-Recorder's office took its marriage services into a park for the first time, and two preselected couples were married on the lawn by the lake — with Board of Supervisors Chair Doug Chaffee himself officiating.
The "mobile wedding" event was organized by Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen's office together with the Fourth District supervisor's office. Chaffee fully sponsored the ceremony fees for both couples, who paid nothing; the event did not accept walk-in registrations, and the couples were selected in advance through an application process. The county said bringing marriage services into a park is meant to make them closer, easier and more affordable for residents, who would otherwise have to travel to a county office.
Clark Regional Park, at 8800 Rosecrans Avenue, covers about 105 acres with a lake, lawns and an interpretive center, and is a weekend picnic and fishing spot for north Orange County residents. The same morning as the weddings, the park also hosted the Fourth District Kids Fishing Derby, giving the park a Saturday scene of wedding vows alongside children's fishing rods.
The Clerk-Recorder's office said pop-up marriage services like this have been piloted at several locations around the county this year, with the goal of taking government services to where residents live.
