MANILA — The Philippines has entered the annual Undas holidays, when millions travel to their home provinces to visit cemeteries for All Saints' Day on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2. The Philippine National Police (PNP) said a full alert took effect at 12:01 a.m. on October 30 and runs until 12:01 a.m. on November 3, with more than 141,000 personnel deployed nationwide.

According to PNP figures, the deployment comprises 73,034 police officers, 16,560 personnel from other government units, and 51,578 civilian force multipliers. They are covering 5,311 cemeteries and columbaria across the country, as well as transport terminals, churches, and tourist spots.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said assistance desks at cemeteries and terminals are handling lost children, medical needs, and emergencies, while officers strictly screen people entering cemeteries, where alcohol and karaoke are banned. He also reminded the public to lock their homes while away to deter burglars.

Under Proclamation No. 1006, November 1 and 2 are special non-working days. Undas is among the Philippines' most important traditions, and the country's Chinese-Filipino community also observes the custom of honoring ancestors, with cemeteries such as the Manila Chinese Cemetery drawing crowds of families.
