EU: Commission Cuts 2026/27 Maize and Soft Wheat Forecasts, Maize to 47.0 Million Tonnes

The European Commission has reduced its 2026/27 usable maize production estimate for the European Union to 47.0 million metric tons, and trimmed its soft wheat output forecast to 123.7 million tons from a previous estimate of 124.2 million tons.
Ending stocks were also lowered to 10.6 million tons, following a reduction in beginning stocks. The adjustments stem from revised beginning-stock data and updated yield expectations for the current crop cycle.
Lower production estimates and tighter ending stocks for major grains typically exert upward pressure on agricultural commodity prices, and the revision lands in the same week the World Bank's latest commodity outlook warned that food prices could keep rising, keeping grain supply expectations under close market watch.
