Sunday, November 1, 2026 · World · GSM News

During its presidency of the Group of Seven (G7), France chaired the meeting of the heads of delegation of the G7 Roma-Lyon Group from October 27 to 29, holding three days of discussions on combating terrorism and transnational organized crime and endorsing several deliverables. The French Foreign Ministry published the meeting's conclusions in a communiqué on October 30.

The Roma-Lyon Group, which focuses on combating terrorism and organized crime, is a cornerstone of G7 cooperation in international security. It works to anticipate emerging threats and to coordinate operational and political responses to these challenges.

One focus of the meeting was strengthening security against drug trafficking, continuing the work on initiatives led by France and adopted at the Évian Summit, in particular the creation of a G7+ Ports Network to Combat Drug Trafficking.

The discussions also covered fighting terrorism and violent extremism, with an analysis of the main international security developments and the means of action to counter these threats. Delegations addressed other forms of transnational organized crime, including human trafficking, migrant smuggling, online child sexual abuse, crimes that affect the environment, fraud, trafficking of cultural property and cybercrime.

Several deliverables developed during the year of the French presidency were endorsed. They aim to prevent online youth radicalization, combat the use of cryptocurrencies for terrorism and violent extremism, and better address the links between different forms of organized crime.

The Foreign Ministry said the work of the Roma-Lyon Group will inform the discussions at the upcoming G7 ministerial meetings: the Foreign Ministers Meeting in Marseille on November 9 and 10, and the Interior Ministers Meeting in Lyon on November 20 and 21. (Source: GSM·USA)
