South Africa Weather Service Issues Election Outlook: Special Voting on November 2-3, Election Day November 4

PRETORIA — The South African Weather Service (SAWS) on November 1 issued its weather outlook for the 2026 Local Government Elections, saying approved special votes will be cast on November 2 and 3 ahead of Election Day on November 4. Voters can expect heat and possible thunderstorms during the special voting period, followed by cooler conditions in parts of the east on Election Day.
SAWS said the seasonal forecast, influenced by a developing El Niño pattern, points to below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures in parts of the country, though showers and thundershowers may still occur in some areas. Very hot conditions are expected in places across the Northern Cape, North West, Limpopo and the Mpumalanga Lowveld, with scattered showers and thundershowers forecast over parts of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
The service encouraged voters to plan their journeys accordingly, stay hydrated, carry rain gear where storms are expected, allow sufficient travel time and monitor official SAWS forecasts, warnings and advisories throughout the voting period.
