Kraken and Predators Swap Young Centers: Wright for Wood

On November 1, the National Hockey League saw a one-for-one trade: the Nashville Predators sent forward Matthew Wood to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for Kraken forward Shane Wright. Both players are centers in the third year of their entry-level contracts and will become restricted free agents next summer, so the deal is seen as the two teams swapping young assets at the same position.
According to figures released by the teams, Wood, 21, has played 14 games for the Predators this season with one goal and two assists. Wright, 22, has played 14 games for the Kraken with three goals and one assist. Wright was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 draft and, over five seasons in Seattle, has played 183 games with 39 goals and 43 assists. The Predators said they are excited to add Wright to their forward group. Wood stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 200 pounds; Wright is 6 feet, 190 pounds.
After the trade, Wright could make his debut on November 3, when the Predators host the Carolina Hurricanes, while Wood will pull on a Kraken jersey and face the scrutiny of Seattle fans.
