On November 1, Hattiesburg, in Forrest County, Mississippi, published a midterm voting guide for voters in Forrest and Lamar counties, reminding them to go to the polls on Tuesday, November 3. Voters in the Hattiesburg area will elect a U.S. senator and a U.S. representative, along with county judicial and school board offices.
Three candidates are running for the U.S. Senate: Democrat Scott Colom, Republican incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and independent Ty Pinkins. In the 4th Congressional District, Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Ezell faces Democrat Jeffrey Hulum III and independent Carl Boyanton. The Forrest County ballot carries six additional local races, and the Lamar County ballot 11 more.
Polls are open on November 3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters casting a ballot in person at a polling place, or voting absentee at a circuit clerk's or municipal clerk's office, must present valid photo identification. The last day for in-person absentee voting was Saturday, October 31; mail absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, and received by 5 p.m. on November 10. Voters can find their polling place and ballot information on the Mississippi Secretary of State's website; reviewing the ballot in advance helps shorten time in line.
