Arkansas Health Insurance Open Enrollment Opens; Enroll by Dec. 15 for Jan. 1 Coverage

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

Open enrollment for health insurance began on November 1 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, and across Arkansas. The Arkansas Insurance Department reminded residents who already have coverage that they can adjust their plans or re-enroll during this window, and that those buying through the state marketplace should pay particular attention to changes.

Key dates: enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1, 2027. Open enrollment ends January 15; coverage for those who enroll after December 15 starts February 1. Insurance Commissioner Jimmy Harris noted that QualChoice Life and Health and Ambetter, which took part in the market last year, will not offer 2027 plans, so enrollees need to review new choices.

Arkansas's uninsured rate was about 9.3% in 2024, among the higher levels in the nation, making open enrollment an important window for reducing the risk of going without coverage. The department advised enrollees to check a new plan's hospital network, drug formulary and out-of-pocket costs when enrolling, to avoid discovering a gap in coverage only when they seek care next year after an insurer's exit from the market.
