At Least 1 Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash on the 405 in Los Angeles

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

At about 1:45 a.m. on November 1, a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 405 freeway near Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, killed at least one person. According to local media reports, one vehicle overturned and an occupant was ejected; responders worked at the scene, all northbound lanes of the 405 were closed for a time, and the freeway reopened several hours later.

The crash happened near the interchange of the 405 and the 101 freeways. Traffic was light in the early morning hours, but a high-speed multi-vehicle collision still had serious consequences. The cause remains under investigation, and police have not released the victim's identity.

The California Highway Patrol reminded nighttime drivers to keep their distance, wear seat belts, and slow down and yield to emergency vehicles near crash scenes. During early-morning freeway crash operations, rescue and towing work requires lane closures; changing lanes early and reducing speed protects both the people working at the scene and drivers passing through, and is key to avoiding secondary crashes.
