Olivia Colman's fantasy romance 'Wicker' expanded in its second weekend in North America and climbed against the market. According to figures from box office tracker The Numbers, the film earned about $4.13 million in its second weekend across 2,374 theaters, bringing its North American total to roughly $13.26 million. That passes the $12.8 million of Jason Statham's 'Shelter' and makes 'Wicker' the highest-grossing domestic release in distributor Black Bear's history.

As GSM reported on October 26, the film opened on October 23 and debuted at No. 5 with $5.75 million. In week two, Black Bear expanded it from 1,471 to 2,374 theaters. Its second Friday grossed $1.4 million, down just 39.6 percent from its opening Friday, the best second Friday in Black Bear's history. The full second weekend fell only about 28 percent, lifting the film from fifth to fourth on the North American chart.

The film was a small buy at this year's Sundance Film Festival: Black Bear acquired North American rights for just $2.5 million, against a production budget of about $10 million. Its domestic gross is now more than five times the purchase price, and overseas rollout is only beginning: it opened in the United Kingdom on October 30 and reaches Australia on November 5.

'Wicker' is directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson and adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones' short story 'The Wicker Husband.' Colman plays a fisherwoman living alone in a seaside village who commissions a local basketmaker to weave her a husband out of wicker. Alexander Skarsgård also stars. The film is Certified Fresh at 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92 percent audience score.

In a quiet Halloween weekend market overall, 'Wicker' was one of the few titles expanding. A24's documentary 'You Can See Everything' led the North American chart with about $10.6 million, followed by Warner Bros.' DC film 'Clayface' at about $10.4 million.
