Follow-up: Alaska Sen. Sullivan Says He Will Accept the Election Results, Even If He Loses to Peltola

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

Alaska's U.S. Senate race saw a new statement on November 1: Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan said on CNN's State of the Union that he will accept the results of the November 3 Senate election, win or lose.

Host Jake Tapper asked whether he would accept the results only if he won. Sullivan replied: "No, I'm going to accept the election results."

The race has been roiled by a second candidate with the same name: Dan J. Sullivan Jr. also appears on the ballot. The Justice Department sued Alaska election officials on October 22, seeking to block certification if Sullivan loses and the votes cast for the namesake candidate are enough to change the outcome; President Trump has said he ordered the suit filed.

Alaska and the Justice Department have both opened investigations into whether anyone broke the law to recruit the second candidate as a spoiler. Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy ordered the state investigation after the New York Times reported an organized Democratic recruiting effort, but he has stopped short of committing to certify the election if Democratic candidate Mary Peltola wins. Peltola has denied knowing about the effort.

Alaska's Senate election uses ranked-choice voting, with balloting on November 3.
