President Donald Trump announced at an airport rally in Salina, Kansas, on November 1 that government-sponsored mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will invest $4.3 billion in Kansas home mortgages next year, helping an estimated 15,000 homebuyers in the state, according to Reuters.

"Today, I'm also announcing that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be investing $4.3 billion in Kansas mortgages next year to help 15,000 Kansas homebuyers achieve their American dream," Trump told the crowd. He thanked Bill Pulte, calling him the chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and saying he is "doing a fantastic job." Pulte also serves as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), which regulates both enterprises.

Salina was one stop on Trump's final multi-state campaign swing ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are the largest U.S. housing finance enterprises, buying and guaranteeing mortgages to keep credit flowing to homebuyers nationwide.

Neither the FHFA nor the two enterprises has yet released implementation details for the $4.3 billion commitment, including the mix of loan types, the rollout schedule, or how buyers would access the program.
