Kim Kardashian Reveals Esophagus Irregularities Need Surgery: Her Father Died of Esophageal Cancer in 2003

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Culture & Entertainment · GSM News

In the October 29 episode of the reality series The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian, 46, opened up about her health: diagnosed with esophagitis earlier this season, she said doctors have now found "irregularities" in her esophagus that have to be cut out. In a preview of the next episode, she says: "The doctor says my esophagus has these irregularities, and I have to have them cut out. It's the same thing my dad had." Her father, attorney Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at age 59.

"So I've seen a couple of doctors, and it's been heavy on my mind lately," she said in the episode. "I haven't really told too many people about this, just because I think it's something that really hits home for me and I just don't really wanna go there. With my dad having passed away from esophagus cancer, hopefully I can just take medication and this will go away." According to the Mayo Clinic, esophagitis is swelling and inflammation of the tissue lining the esophagus, most commonly caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The preview shows her in a hospital gown being wheeled in, with her mother Kris Jenner consoling her at the bedside. The show has not said whether the irregularities are related to cancer. In 2019, UCLA Health opened the Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health, named for her father, and she spoke at the launch.
