Takaichi Delivers Video Message at Manama Dialogue: Japan Drafting Comprehensive Plan to Bolster Gulf Economic and Energy Resilience

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae delivered a video message on November 1 to the Manama Dialogue, an international conference being held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, saying Japan is formulating a comprehensive cooperation plan aimed at strengthening the economic and energy resilience of the Gulf states and will work with the international community to ensure free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an overview of the message on November 1.
Takaichi delivered the message during a session titled "A New Economic Agenda: From Reconstruction and Development to Prosperity." Kobe Yasuhiro, Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Secretariat, attended the Dialogue in person and made remarks based on the Prime Minister's message.
Takaichi said Japan has been making persistent diplomatic efforts toward an early de-escalation and stabilization of the situation in the Middle East, communicating with many relevant countries including the United States, Iran and the Gulf states. Through the comprehensive cooperation plan now being formulated, she said, Japan will further strengthen cooperation between the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, and the Gulf states for the stable global supply of energy.
She also said the early restoration of stability in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is crucial, and that Japan will make every effort, together with the international community including the Gulf states, to ensure free and safe navigation through both straits. To restore peace and stability in the Middle East and achieve the goal of becoming "more resilient and prosperous together," Japan will also promote cooperation in advanced technology fields such as super intelligence (SI), she said.
The Manama Dialogue is a major annual security conference in the Middle East. Gulf economic and energy resilience was also among Japan's diplomatic priorities during this week's G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting: when Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Atlanta on October 31, he likewise explained the progress of the comprehensive cooperation plan now being formulated.
