Honolulu's Chinese Community to Mark the 160th Anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Birth on November 1 With a Walk, Lei-Draping, Mural Unveiling and Commemorative Banquet

Honolulu, Hawaii — The Chinese community in Honolulu will hold a series of events on Sunday, November 1, 2026, to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The arrangements announced by the organizer, the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Hawaii Foundation, include historical walking tours, a lei-draping ceremony, a mural unveiling and a commemorative banquet, at locations around downtown Honolulu and Chinese community landmarks. Dr. Sun studied, lived and carried out revolutionary activities in Honolulu in his early years and had deep ties with Hawaii's Chinese community; Honolulu still preserves memorial landmarks and historical memories connected with him. The same series also includes the 'Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Hawaii' youth painting exhibition call for entries, presented by the City and County of Honolulu in partnership with Zhongshan City, inviting Hawaii students in grades 6 through 12 to create original 11-by-14-inch paintings depicting Dr. Sun's life and activities in Hawaii.
