New York Directs $14 Million to Three Brooklyn Institutions: Children's Museum Leads With $7 Million

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on October 30 that the state will provide a combined $14 million to three cultural institutions in Brooklyn, Kings County: $5 million to the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network (HITN) to expand its studio facilities at the Brooklyn Navy Yard; $7 million to the Brooklyn Children's Museum for its Earth Science Garden; and $2 million to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for work on its Peter Jay Sharp Building.
The funding will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY). DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez said the three institutions are central to Brooklyn's cultural and educational landscape and that the state investment will help them expand services and improve facilities. State Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda also welcomed the awards.
According to the governor's office, HITN is one of the nation's leading Spanish-language media and education organizations, and the Navy Yard expansion will increase its production capacity. The Brooklyn Children's Museum, among the oldest children's museums in the United States, will pair outdoor exhibits with nature education in the new Earth Science Garden, while BAM's Sharp Building work supports its performing arts programming and audience facilities.
