Wisconsin Awards $1.3 Million in Coastal Grants for 27 Projects: Leveraging More Than $3.2 Million in Total Investment

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and the Department of Administration announced, as Coastal Awareness Month came to a close, $1.3 million in coastal management grants supporting 27 projects worth more than $3.2 million in total. Recipients include local and state governments, tribal governments, regional planning commissions, universities and nonprofits.
The grants are administered by the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP), established in 1978 and funded through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coastal Zone Management program, with recipients recommended by the Wisconsin Coastal Management Council. The awards support Great Lakes shoreline work including wetland protection, coastal resilience, public access and water quality improvements.
Wisconsin has more than 800 miles of Great Lakes coastline. Department of Administration Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld said the coast is central to the economy and quality of life of many Wisconsin communities, and that the investments will help shoreline communities protect the lakes, improve water quality and expand public access. The next WCMP grant round closes November 3, 2026, with information at coastal.wisconsin.gov.
