I Play Rocky Opens in Limited Release November 6: The Story of Stallone's Long-Shot Breakthrough
Amazon MGM's biographical drama I Play Rocky opens in limited release on November 6 and expands wide on November 20. The film tells the story of how Sylvester Stallone, an unknown actor, wrote the script for Rocky and insisted on starring in it himself, against all advice, before the film made him a star. The wide release lands on the 50th anniversary of Rocky's original premiere on November 21, 1976.
Peter Farrelly directs from a script by Peter Gamble. Anthony Ippolito plays the young Stallone, Stephan James plays Carl Weathers, AnnaSophia Robb plays Stallone's then-wife Sasha Czack, and Matt Dillon plays his father, Frank Stallone Sr.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12 and was a runner-up for the People's Choice Award. It is rated PG-13 and runs two hours and eight minutes.
