Monday, November 2, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

In Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, GSM reported on November 1 that city officials and police were investigating the Deep Ellum Halloween night shootings. On November 2, U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould announced Operation Deep Cover, a safety initiative providing federal resources for policing the Deep Ellum nightlife district.

Three shootings struck Deep Ellum within 75 minutes on Halloween night: the first at about 12:20 a.m. on November 1 in the 2600 block of Elm Street, the second at about 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street, and the third at about 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street, killing four people and injuring approximately 15, with the toll still fluid. Operation Deep Cover adds uniformed and plainclothes officers in Deep Ellum, and federal authorities will review Dallas police cases from the area involving violent and drug crimes, with cases prosecuted through the operation handled at the federal level.

The same day, federal authorities arrested Treyveion Demby on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm: officials say that at about 1 a.m. on November 1, wearing a black ski mask, Demby pointed a handgun toward Main Street while police were responding to the shootings; the pistol held 16 rounds and had been stolen in 2017. Demby has four prior aggravated robbery convictions in Dallas, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in February 2020 and was released on parole in September 2025.
