Monday, November 2, 2026 · Society · GSM News

In Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, Michigan State Police said on November 2 that three crashes in metro Detroit on Halloween night killed five people, including a child. State Police Lt. Ty Howard said the deaths were all avoidable and that the three crashes are believed to have involved alcohol, speeding and reckless driving.

The first crash occurred at about 11:45 p.m. on October 31 on westbound M-8, the Davison Freeway, near I-75, when a Chevrolet Impala rear-ended another vehicle and triggered a three-vehicle crash. A child among the Impala's six occupants was ejected and died at a hospital; the other five were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to critical, and the driver, while receiving treatment, is under arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated causing death.

About an hour later, an SUV traveling at high speed on southbound I-75 near Schaefer Road struck a barrier and rolled several times, killing one passenger; speed and reckless driving are suspected factors. In the third crash, at about 2 a.m. on November 1 on southbound M-10 near Wyoming Avenue, a vehicle went off the road, airborne, and landed on an entrance ramp, killing three Detroit women; alcohol and speed are suspected factors. All three crashes remain under investigation, and police have not released all of the victims' names.
