UDOT Closes Alpine Loop for Winter From 7 A.M. on November 2: Pine Hollow to Aspen Grove Section Shut

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Transportation · GSM News

In Utah County, Utah, the Utah Department of Transportation announced it will close the Alpine Loop (SR-92) for the winter on Monday, November 2, at 7 a.m., its first seasonal winter road closure of the year. The closure covers the mountain section between Pine Hollow in American Fork Canyon and Aspen Grove above Sundance, and drivers will no longer be able to travel between American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon using the Alpine Loop.

UDOT closes several high-elevation roads each winter because heavy snow and rapidly changing conditions make travel hazardous; reopening dates depend on weather, snowpack and maintenance needs. During the closure, drivers can still reach Sundance via Provo Canyon and Tibble Fork Reservoir via American Fork Canyon, weather and road conditions permitting, but cannot cross the full loop. UDOT advises checking its traffic website and seasonal roads page before heading into the mountains.
