New Hampshire U.S. Attorney's Office Announces Election Safeguards: District Election Officer Named, Federal Monitors to Watch Polling Places

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for New Hampshire, in Concord, Merrimack County, announced on November 1 that it is prepared to safeguard the fairness of the November 3 midterm election. U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan said Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Chen has been designated the district election officer for the state, responsible for handling Election Day voting-rights complaints, threats of violence against election officials or staff, and election fraud reports, and for serving as the liaison when federal election crimes must be reported.

Under the announced arrangements, federal election monitors led by the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division will also watch some polling places for compliance with federal law on voter registration and eligibility. The Justice Department can receive and respond to reports from the New Hampshire Attorney General or Secretary of State and work with state officials to ensure problems voters encounter at polling places are investigated and addressed.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said it is committed to a free and fair election on November 3 and will, as always, work with law enforcement partners to combat and investigate any election crime threatening the integrity of the vote. New Hampshire allows same-day registration on Election Day, and voters can check registration requirements, accepted identification and polling place locations on the Secretary of State's website.
