Chicago Cubs Extend $23.15 Million Qualifying Offer to Seiya Suzuki, Decision Due November 17

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

In Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, the Chicago Cubs extended a one-year, $23.15 million qualifying offer to outfielder Seiya Suzuki on November 2. It is the first qualifying offer of Suzuki's career, and he has until November 17 to decide whether to accept it.

Suzuki was one of eight players across the majors to receive the offer that day, a group that also included Randy Arozarena of the Mariners, Brandon Lowe of the Pirates and Trevor Rogers of the Orioles. The $23.15 million figure is set by the average of the top 125 salaries from the previous season.

Suzuki spent the entire 2026 season with Chicago, hitting .270/.368/.473 with 26 home runs, 31 doubles and 86 RBIs, posting a career-best on-base percentage, and his improved right-field defense made him a Gold Glove finalist.

Under the rules, if he declines the offer and signs elsewhere, the Cubs will receive draft-pick compensation; if he accepts, he will stay in Chicago for one year at $23.15 million. Most players who receive qualifying offers decline in search of multi-year deals, and Suzuki is widely expected to do the same.
