Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced at a regular press conference in Beijing on November 2 that Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China's foreign minister, will chair the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Beijing on November 3-4.

Mao said this year marks the tenth anniversary of the first LMC Leaders' Meeting. Over the past decade, she said, the cooperation has grown into a 'golden model' of regional cooperation with strong vitality and potential. Trade between China and the five Mekong countries has exceeded US$500 billion, up 150 percent from ten years ago.

The LMC Special Fund has supported more than 1,000 small but high-quality projects, programs including the 'Sweet Spring Action' and the agriculture cooperation initiative have taken effect, and the 'Lancang-Mekong Visa' has made travel among the six countries more convenient, Mao said. The LMC brings together China and the five Mekong countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mao said China hopes the foreign ministers' meeting will review cooperation experience, chart the next direction, and focus on a new blueprint for 'LMC 2.0', exploring new mechanisms for open cooperation, new platforms for innovative industries and new outcomes in law-enforcement and security cooperation.
