UN First Committee Adopts China-Sponsored Resolution on Promoting Peaceful Uses in International Security

Monday, November 2, 2026 · World · GSM News

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference on November 2 that the First Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly — the committee on disarmament and international security — had adopted by vote on October 31, Beijing time, a resolution sponsored by China titled 'Promoting peaceful uses of international cooperation in the context of international security.'

Mao said China welcomes the adoption. The resolution calls for balancing development and security, strengthening the role of the United Nations, and safeguarding the legitimate right of developing countries to the peaceful uses of science and technology. It urges all countries to take concrete measures to promote international cooperation on peaceful uses and to avoid restrictive measures inconsistent with their international obligations. The resolution also decides to continue considering the issue at the General Assembly.

It is the fourth time since 2021 that China has submitted a resolution on the peaceful uses of science and technology to the General Assembly, and it received wide international support, Mao said.

Implementing the resolution is a priority direction in China's implementation of the Global Security Initiative, Mao added, saying China is ready to work with all parties to promote the full and effective implementation of the resolution so that scientific and technological achievements better serve peace and development.
