Cedar Rapids Felon Sentenced to 63 Months in Federal Prison for Illegally Possessing a Gun

Leonard Craig Landt, Jr., 39, of Cedar Rapids, in Linn County, Iowa, was sentenced on November 2, 2026, to 63 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a felon, followed by a three-year term of supervised release. United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams imposed the sentence in Cedar Rapids. There is no parole in the federal system, and Landt is being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
Landt received the prison term after a May 29, 2026, guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a felon. Evidence in the case showed that in 2015, Landt was convicted in federal court of conspiracy to commit robbery. After his release from federal prison, in September 2025, Landt was found in possession of a Glock 19 pistol.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams. The case file number is 25-CR-0084. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
