Gettysburg Parks Propose a 48.27-Mile Trail Network: Public Comment Open Through December 2

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Culture & Travel · GSM News

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on a proposed Trails Plan and Environmental Assessment for Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. The proposed plan would establish a 48.27-mile network of designated public-use trails across both parks, and the comment period runs from November 2 through December 2, 2026, through the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) system.

The network would include approximately 13.3 miles of additional pedestrian trails and 3.0 miles of bicycle trails. The plan is intended to improve visitor safety, accessibility and connectivity while providing additional opportunities to experience the parks' historic landscapes, and to improve connections with surrounding communities while protecting the parks' significant cultural and natural resources.

Trail improvements would be implemented in phases as funding becomes available and after any necessary environmental and historic preservation compliance. No public meeting is scheduled, and public comments will help inform the National Park Service's final decision.
