Wang Yi Meets Iran's Deputy Security Chief Bagheri in Beijing: Dialogue Is the Way to Resolve the Middle East Conflict

China's Foreign Ministry said on November 2 that Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, met in Beijing with Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, for talks on the Middle East situation and China-Iran relations.

Wang Yi said the current Middle East conflict is dragging on and spreading, and that dialogue and negotiation are the way to resolve it. All parties should act responsibly toward their peoples and toward history, meet each other halfway, and focus on a political settlement in a rational and pragmatic spirit rather than resorting to arms again. China, he said, stands ready to uphold the initiatives and proposals put forward by President Xi Jinping on easing the Middle East situation and to keep working with all parties for the restoration of regional peace.

Wang said that despite turbulence in the international landscape, China-Iran relations have maintained steady growth, which serves the fundamental interests of both peoples and the shared aspiration of Global South countries for solidarity and cooperation. China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security and is ready to work with Iran to keep bilateral relations moving forward, he said.

Bagheri briefed the Chinese side on Iran's views on the regional situation, saying Iran will firmly safeguard its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity and resist power politics and threats, while remaining willing to engage in contacts and negotiations with all parties and to work actively for regional peace and stability. He said Iran appreciates President Xi's initiatives and China's consistent stance on multilateralism, and hopes China will play a greater role for international and regional peace. Iran is ready to promote steady growth of Iran-China relations and strengthen cooperation with China within international and multilateral frameworks, he said.

Bagheri has long overseen Iran's external negotiations, serving as deputy foreign minister and, in 2024, acting foreign minister, and was one of Iran's chief nuclear negotiators. In September 2025 he became the Supreme National Security Council's deputy secretary for international affairs. The Beijing meeting was a high-level security dialogue between China and Iran as tensions persist in the Middle East.
