New York Man Arrested: Accused of Recording With a Hidden Bathroom Camera and Facing Child Pornography Charges

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York announced on November 2, 2026, that Matthew David Marvin, 38, of Perinton, in Monroe County, New York, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with production and attempted production, receipt and possession of child pornography, charges carrying a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years.

According to the criminal complaint, on June 7, 2026, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office was alerted to nude photographs of a 12-year-old minor victim found on a laptop computer that had been taken into the Sheriff's Office's custody. Subsequent investigation traced the laptop and the photographs to Marvin. The complaint states that the videos were taken using a camera concealed in the ceiling of a bathroom in Marvin's home. On June 19, 2026, during a forensic analysis of the laptop, investigators recovered five video files depicting the same bathroom and females using the bathroom, one of whom appeared to be a naked minor.

On June 26, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at Marvin's residence and seized numerous electronic items, including a desktop computer, two hard drives and his cell phone. A forensic analysis of those items recovered several thousand images and video files consistent with recordings from the bathroom camera, apparently recorded over a period of nearly three years. Additional images and videos of child pornography obtained via the internet, as well as search terms and websites associated with child pornography, were also found on the devices.

Marvin made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen and was held pending a detention hearing on November 3, 2026. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo made the announcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford and is the result of an investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, under Sheriff Todd Baxter, and Homeland Security Investigations, under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Anthony Patrone. The U.S. Attorney's Office noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that Marvin is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
