The Catholic Diocese of Palm Beach, in Palm Beach County, Florida, dedicated an All Souls' Day Mass on Monday, November 2, to the nine victims of the Florida Learjet crash. Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez celebrated the Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, about seven miles northwest of the November 1 crash site.

The crash happened around midday on November 1: a Learjet 60 business jet that had departed Austin, Texas, bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas, came down near Greenacres in Palm Beach County, killing all nine people aboard. No one on the ground was killed or injured. A National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) go-team is at the site, with a media briefing scheduled for Monday afternoon.

In a statement published by the diocese, Bishop Rodríguez said: 'I am deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash along Military Trail in Greenacres that claimed the lives of nine individuals. On behalf of the Diocese of Palm Beach, I extend my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this devastating tragedy.'

In a prepared statement reported by the Palm Beach Post on November 2, the bishop added: 'As a community of faith, we mourn alongside those who are grieving and unite in prayer for all who have been affected. I am especially grateful to our firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and all first responders for their courageous and selfless service during this difficult time.'

November 2 is All Souls' Day in the Catholic Church, traditionally a day of prayer for the faithful departed. The diocese's memorial Mass, scheduled for 10 a.m., joined the day's All Souls' observances in remembering the nine crash victims. (Source: Diocese of Palm Beach)
