MICHELIN Guide Switzerland 2026: The Japanese Restaurant in Andermatt Earns Three Stars as Swiss Starred Total Reaches 133

On the evening of November 2, on the sidelines of a ceremony in the Alpine resort of Andermatt in the Swiss canton of Uri, the MICHELIN Guide announced its 2026 Switzerland selection: The Japanese Restaurant, located inside The Chedi Andermatt hotel, was promoted from two stars to three, becoming Switzerland's fifth three-star restaurant. The kitchen is led by chefs Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon.
According to Swiss public broadcaster SWI swissinfo.ch, Switzerland has 133 starred restaurants in 2026: in addition to the five three-star establishments, there are 22 restaurants with two stars and 106 with one star, including seven new one-star entries. The three-star club previously had four members: Memories in Bad Ragaz, the Hôtel de Ville in Crissier, Cheval Blanc in Basel and Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau.
In its official announcement, The Chedi Andermatt traced the restaurant's climb: a first star in 2017, two stars and the MICHELIN Young Chef Award in 2023, and now three stars in 2026. The hotel credited years of focus by the co-executive chefs and a team that holds itself to an uncompromising standard at every service.
Andermatt sits in the Urseren valley in the canton of Uri, in the central Swiss Alps near the Gotthard Pass. MICHELIN stars are awarded by anonymous inspectors under globally consistent criteria, and three stars is the guide's highest distinction.
