The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia announced that Savon Lee Blanchard, 33, who resides in Temple Hills, Maryland, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in connection with a Glock 30 pistol recovered after a foot chase. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the plea, in case 26cr102.

Blanchard pleaded guilty before Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Judge Sooknanan scheduled sentencing for March 2, 2027. Blanchard was previously convicted in 2016 in Prince George's County, Maryland, of involuntary manslaughter in the 2011 fatal shooting of 23-year-old Alusine Kargbo of Lanham, who was shot in the back as he played basketball at an elementary school in New Carrollton; for that slaying he was sentenced to 10 years in prison with five years suspended, plus 20 years, with 15 suspended, for using a handgun in a crime of violence.

According to court documents, on April 17, 2026, at about 5:20 p.m., Blanchard was sitting on a white Yamaha Raptor 700R all-terrain vehicle that was stopped and running near the intersection of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE and Hayes Street NE in Washington. The ATV had been reported stolen out of Anne Arundel County. When a Metropolitan Police investigator tried to stop him, Blanchard dismounted and fled on foot; as officers chased him they heard a metal object clank against the sidewalk and recovered a black Glock Model 30 .45 caliber pistol he had dropped, loaded with 12 rounds in the magazine. Surveillance footage showed the Glock coming off his person and sliding along the concrete sidewalk. He was apprehended moments later; as a previously convicted felon, he was prohibited from carrying any firearm.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Washington Field Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole under the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful initiative. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice)
