Cristhian Martinez Sentenced to 17½ Years for Selling Fentanyl That Killed a Father: 30 Pounds of Fentanyl and 100,000 Counterfeit Pills

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon announced that Cristhian Martinez, 21, a Honduran national unlawfully residing in the United States, was sentenced to 17½ years in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for distributing fentanyl that resulted in a fatal overdose. Martinez lived in Gladstone, in Clackamas County, Oregon, and the drugs he supplied reached a buyer in Milwaukie, in the same county.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Martinez was part of a conspiracy that operated a fentanyl manufacturing and distribution hub from his Gladstone residence. On November 16, 2023, he was stopped while driving back from California with more than a kilogram of fentanyl in his vehicle. A federal search of his residence then seized additional fentanyl powder and counterfeit pills, a pill-press operation, cutting agents, thousands of dollars in cash, and nine firearms.
Martinez pleaded guilty on May 6, 2026, to conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, and to being an alien in possession of a firearm. As part of his plea agreement, he admitted supplying fentanyl to another dealer who sold it to a 30-year-old Milwaukie man, a father and fiancé who died on September 26, 2023, of acute fentanyl toxicity. Investigators said that dealer had purchased between 30 and 50 pounds of fentanyl powder and more than 100,000 counterfeit pills from Martinez over 18 months; the office noted that 30 pounds of fentanyl equals an estimated 6.8 million potentially lethal doses. The dealer who sold the fentanyl to the victim has also been charged, and his case is pending.
"The defendant came to this country illegally and chose to profit from poisoning our communities," said U.S. Attorney Scott Bradford. "His actions cost a young father his life, and today's sentence reflects the seriousness of that choice." The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott M. Kerin with investigative support from the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force, the Washington County Interagency Narcotics Team, the FBI, and other law enforcement partners.
