SAN FRANCISCO — Oakland is in Alameda County, California. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California announced on November 2 that Jaray Washington, of Oakland, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for eight counts of robbery affecting interstate commerce and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston handed down the sentence.

Washington, 44, was charged by complaint on July 1, 2024, and indicted by a federal grand jury on August 15, 2024. He pleaded guilty on December 19, 2025, to eight counts of robbery affecting interstate commerce, in violation of 18 U.S.C. section 1951(a), and one count of felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of 18 U.S.C. section 922(g)(1). According to the plea agreement and court documents, Washington admitted to robbing at gunpoint eight businesses in Alameda County, including seven gas stations and one Taco Bell restaurant. Two of the robberies were committed with an accomplice, Deante Hunt, who received a 36-month sentence in the same case.

According to court documents, Washington also led police on multiple high-speed chases to evade capture. When he was arrested on February 13, 2024, officers recovered the distinct purple pistol he had brandished during each of the robberies. While he committed these offenses, Washington was on federal supervised release following a 2022 conviction for felon in possession of a firearm.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Illston sentenced Washington to a three-year period of supervised release and ordered him to pay restitution. He has remained in custody since his arrest. U.S. Attorney Craig H. Missakian and FBI Special Agent in Charge Scott R. Schelble made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonah P. Ross and Kelly I. Volkar are prosecuting the case, which is the result of an investigation by the FBI, the Hayward, Fremont, San Leandro and Livermore police departments, and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
