Florida Governor Names Seven to the State Board of Medicine: Three Appointments and Four Reappointments

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on October 30 his appointments to the state Board of Medicine: Dr. Andrea Aguilera, Dr. Lisa Kay Mao and Elyse Young are appointed, while Dr. Scot Ackerman, Dr. Gobi Balaji, Dr. Mathew Benson and Dr. Hector Vila are reappointed. The board licenses and regulates physicians across Florida.
According to the governor's office, the appointees and reappointees come from clinical and health-care leadership roles around the state. The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. The board sets practice standards and handles physician licensing and disciplinary cases, making it a central body in Florida's health-care regulation.
Physician licensing and discipline in Florida are administered jointly by the Department of Health and the Board of Medicine. The governor's office said the board, with the new members seated, will continue working through licensing applications and regulatory matters.
