Montana Ranks Second in the Nation for Hourly Wage Growth: Average Wage Up 4.7% to $29.27

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte has announced that, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, Montana ranks second in the nation for hourly wage growth: the statewide average hourly wage rose 4.7%, from $27.96 in 2024 to $29.27 in 2025. The governor's office released the figures in Helena, the state capital.

The governor's office also pointed to broader indicators: Montana's real GDP growth ranks among the five fastest in the nation, up 16.1% cumulatively from 2021 to 2025 against 10.8% nationally. The state has operated debt-free since 2023, which the governor's office credits with saving taxpayers about $40 million in interest costs over two years.

State officials attribute the wage and economic gains to policies including the governor's '406 JOBS' agenda of tax relief and streamlined permitting. The BLS statistics are drawn from employer reports across industries and are a standard measure of state wage trends.
