92nd Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Steps Off November 26 at 7:45 a.m. on State Street, Free to Watch

The 92nd Chicago Thanksgiving Parade marches through the Loop in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26: stepping off at 7:45 a.m. from State Street and Ida B. Wells Drive, north on State Street to Randolph Street, wrapping up around 10 a.m., free to watch along the route (cost: free; reserved VIP seating is also sold).
Founded in 1934 as a Depression-era Christmas parade meant to lift spirits, the procession now brings giant balloons, floats, marching bands, equestrian units and cultural performances; this year's grand marshal is Chicago Bears legend Charles "Peanut" Tillman, and the route passes the Chicago Theatre marquee and Macy's on State Street. CBS Chicago carries it live from 8 to 10 a.m.
Organizers note the step-off is about an hour earlier than in recent years; streets close from early morning, and the CTA Red Line runs directly beneath State Street.
