Fraunces Tavern Museum's New Exhibition Opens November 17: Martha Washington, the First Founding Mother

Fraunces Tavern Museum in New York has announced a special exhibition, Martha, The First Founding Mother Revealed, opening to the public on November 17 in the museum's Adeline Moses Loeb Gallery, following a preview reception on the evening of November 16. The exhibition, which will run for about a year, uses artifacts and documents to present Martha Washington's public life and her role in the political and social world of the early republic.
The show forms part of the museum's Road to Freedom series marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Fraunces Tavern, in Lower Manhattan, is among the oldest surviving tavern buildings in the United States; George Washington bade farewell to his Continental Army officers there in 1783. The museum is open daily from noon to 5 p.m., with tickets sold on site only.
