Detroit broke the game open early in the third: Justin Faulk scored on the power play at 2:06, and just 45 seconds later Michael Brandsegg-Nygard converted a Lucas Raymond feed for a 4-2 lead. Sam Bennett cut the deficit with 3:20 remaining, but Emmitt Finnie's empty-net goal with 2.7 seconds left sealed the win. Red Wings goaltender Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves against his former team, while Jacob Markstrom stopped 24 in his return from injury for Florida.

Detroit improved to 7-5-3, while Florida's three-game winning streak ended at 8-5-2.
