Paris Masters Day One: Musetti Wins Two Tiebreaks, Jodar Advances in Straight Sets

The Rolex Paris Masters, the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, opened at Paris La Defense Arena on November 2. In the day's headline match, Italy's Lorenzo Musetti edged Poland's Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(3), 7-6(10) in two tiebreaks to set up a meeting with top seed and new world No. 1 Alexander Zverev.
Spanish rising star Rafael Jodar beat Chile's Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-3, firing 10 aces without a double fault; Jodar stands ninth in the Race to Turin for the ATP Finals. Elsewhere, qualifier Rinky Hijikata routed Luciano Darderi 6-2, 6-2, Cameron Norrie beat Matteo Arnaldi in three sets, and Casper Ruud dismissed Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2. Karen Khachanov advanced when Denis Shapovalov retired with a right-thigh injury while leading 4-1 in the third set.
On November 3, seven-time champion Novak Djokovic opens his campaign against Valentin Vacherot, who beat him in Shanghai earlier this season.
