American Red Cross: Herbalife Renews Support for Blood Saves Lives Donor Program With $1 Million In-Kind Commitment
The American Red Cross announced in Washington on October 27 that Herbalife has renewed its support for the Red Cross Blood Saves Lives program with a $1 million in-kind commitment to provide protein bars and bites for blood donors.
The donation is aimed at caring for the donors themselves. The Red Cross said blood donations are essential for patients undergoing cancer treatments, accident victims, people living with sickle cell disease and others who rely on lifesaving transfusions every day, and that Herbalife's contribution supports the Red Cross's efforts to care for the donors who make those transfusions possible.
"At Herbalife, we believe stronger communities are built when we show up for one another in meaningful ways," said Troy Hicks, chief operating officer at Herbalife. "Our longstanding partnership with the American Red Cross reflects our shared commitment to supporting people when they need it most. By renewing our $1 million commitment to the Blood Saves Lives program, we're helping care for the donors whose generosity makes lifesaving blood available to patients in need."
The partnership spans 30 years. The Red Cross said Herbalife has supported its disaster relief and blood collection efforts through financial contributions, volunteer engagement, in-kind donations and employee blood drives, has donated nutrition bars to Red Cross blood donation centers across the United States over the last 10 years, and has hosted more than 100 blood drives since 2004. The renewal coincides with Herbalife's Global Month of Purpose in October, when the company encourages employees to give back through service and generosity.
