Argentina's Caputo Unveils SME Relief Package: Tax Seizures Suspended Until May 2027

Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced a relief package for small and medium-sized enterprises at the 32nd conference of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) in Buenos Aires on November 3. The measures suspend seizures by the customs and tax agency ARCA until May 2027, extend an 18-instalment payment plan for debts owed to ARCA maturing through October 31, allow exporters to use 100 percent of export tax credits to cancel customs debts, and open a Banco Nación credit line for domestically manufactured vehicles at a fixed rate of 25 percent over 72 months. Caputo also proposed to provincial governors that they advance the elimination of the Stamp Tax, a suggestion that caught attending officials off guard.
The announcement came as Argentina's country risk closed Tuesday at 831 basis points, its highest since last year's midterm elections, and the official wholesale exchange rate closed at a record 1,551 pesos to the dollar for the second straight day, with the central bank staying out of the market. Industry leaders welcomed the measures while warning that macroeconomic stabilisation has yet to translate into a lower tax burden, and presented their own proposed federal industrial fiscal pact.
