Lai Ching-te Opens Taiwan Week 2026: Taiwan Now the World's Fourth-Largest Stock Market

Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te attended the opening ceremony of Taiwan Week 2026 in Taipei on the morning of November 3. He said that, amid changing international conditions and the wave of super intelligence (SI), Taiwan has shown resilience with steady economic growth, and that the government will keep leveraging Taiwan's industrial strengths and strengthening financial development to make its financial markets more international and its capital markets more innovative, and to make Taiwan a market worthy of long-term trust for investors.
Citing official figures, Lai said the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics reported third-quarter economic growth of 14.36 percent, 2.94 percentage points above the August forecast, the highest for the quarter in 48 years and a fourth straight quarter of double-digit growth; Taiwan's economy grew 8.76 percent last year, with full-year growth this year expected to exceed 11 percent. He also cited Bloomberg statistics showing that, by aggregate national market value, Taiwan this year became the world's fourth-largest stock market, evidence of a capital market that keeps expanding.
Lai said these results rest on Taiwan's industrial fundamentals — corporate profitability, flexible supply chains and a critical position in global supply chains — and that he hopes to use financial strength to connect with global capital, support innovation and work with international partners for shared prosperity and regional stability.
