Follow-Up: University of Delaware Students Decry Racist Posts After Halloween Shooting

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The University of Delaware community in Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, was still reckoning on November 3 with the aftermath of the Halloween night downtown shooting: seven people were injured in the October 31 late-night shooting, one person had been arrested on a gun possession charge as of November 3, and police are still investigating who was responsible for the gunfire.

After the shooting, posts carrying racist language and stereotypes flooded an anonymous posting platform popular with students, with some attempting to link the incident to visiting Delaware State University students. The University of Delaware Black Student Union publicly called out the posts on November 1, and student parents, a nonprofit leader and the campus NAACP chapter president also spoke out against them. The university and student organizations said the shooting itself remains under investigation and that no one should speculate about suspects' identities through racial labels. Newark police said in a November 3 update that the investigation continues, and urged the public to rely on official information rather than online rumors.
