South Carolina Coach Beamer: Running Back Fuller Could Return for the Postseason After Surgery

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina — University of South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer said at his weekly news conference on November 3 that starting running back Matt Fuller's injury is not season-ending and that he could return for the postseason after the regular season. Fuller suffered a broken bone in his foot in last Saturday's win over Oklahoma and underwent surgery on Sunday morning.

Beamer said Fuller will miss the final four games of the regular season but could come back if the team reaches the postseason. Fuller has been the core of the Gamecocks' running back room this season, leading its backs with 94 carries for 530 yards and five touchdowns.

While Fuller is out, Jabree Coleman will take most of the carries — his 44 carries are the most among the remaining backs — with Isaiah Augustave, Jawarn Howell and Christian Clark rotating in. South Carolina, now 5-3, can secure bowl eligibility by beating Texas A&M on Saturday. Beamer said the decision on a postseason return will depend on Fuller's recovery.
