Follow-Up: Escaped Murderer Morley Captured in Missouri After Nine Days on the Run
Tiptonville, Lake County, Tennessee — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on November 3 that Jacob Allen Morley, who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex on October 25, has been captured, ending a nine-day manhunt. Morley, 28, is serving a life sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder in the 2022 Carter County death of Cody Birchfield.
The Tennessee Department of Correction said Morley was reported missing from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Lake County, at about 11:30 p.m. on October 25; he then cut through a fence and stole a white Ford pickup nearby. During the manhunt, the TBI placed him on its most-wanted list and offered a $17,500 reward for information leading to his arrest.
On the morning of November 3, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers captured him in the Kansas City area, near Norborne in Carroll County. District Attorney Danny Goodman said Morley will face escape, vandalism and theft charges in Tennessee, and may face further charges in Illinois and Missouri. The Tennessee Department of Correction thanked the assisting law enforcement agencies and the public.
